정치, 경제, 스포츠, 연예인의 구분 없이 순위가 결정된 이 리스트에서 유럽 중앙 은행의 회장, 알테 오퍼 프랑크푸르트의 단장 등과 함께 순위에 오른 그녀는 2011년부터 SONY Classical (소니 클래시컬)의 전속 아티스트로 발탁되었고, 현재 스위스 취리히에 위치한 칼라이도스 음악 대학의 피아노과 전임 강사이자 주)유진온뮤직, EON International Music Center.Ltd의 CEO & 예술 감독으로서 전문 연주자, 교수로서의 인생 1막에서 경영자로서의 역할까지 더한 1인 3역의 인생 2막을 성공적으로 열어 나가고 있다.
피아니스트 최유진은 8살 때 서울에서 첫 독주회를 시작으로 11살에 서울 시립 교향악단과의 협연에서 솔리스트로 공식 데뷔하였다(세종 문화 회관). 13세에 서울에서 두번째의 독주회를 가진 이후 그녀는 16살 때 보스턴 심포니 홀에서 마에스트로 Keith Lockhart의 지휘 아래 보스턴 팝스 오케스트라와 성공적으로 미국 데뷔 무대를 마쳤으며, 여러 저명 아티스트들의 favorite 연주홀이기도 한 Boston의 Jordan Hall에서 영국의 명 지휘자 Maestro Bennjamin Zander의 바톤 아래 협연도 마쳤다.
그녀의 나이 20살 때는 다시 Jordan Hall에서 유럽의 명 지휘자인 Maestro Stanislaw Skrowazewski와 함께 쇼팽 피아노 협주곡 2번을 협연하기도 하였다. New England Conservatory 학사 졸업시에는 졸업생 대표로 다시 Jordan Hall에서 지휘자 Richard Hoenich과 함께 Liszt Totentanz를 연주하였다. 그녀는 서울 시향과의 한국 데뷔 후 20년 만에 서울 예술의 전당에서 서울 시향과의 랑데뷰를 포함한 부산, 인천, 경기, 광주, 대구, 유라시아 필하모닉 오케스트라 등 한국의 국내 유수의 오케스트라와도 협연하였다. 또한 그녀는 독일의 라인가우, 바일부르크, 홀츠하우켄슐뢰셴, 아우구스부르크 모차르트, 쇼팽 게셀샤프트, 벡슈타인 콘서트 시리즈, 크로아티아의 바라즈딘, 오파티아, , 몬테네그로의 코토르, 슬로베니아의 류블리아나, 이탈리아의 메라노, 스위스의 스타인웨이 시리즈 등 세계적으로 유명한 페스티벌에서의 초청과 재초청으로 수많은 독주회를 가지기도 하였다.
유진의 세련된 연주는 한국 정부의 예술 컨설턴트들로부터 주목을 받으며 대한민국과 룩셈부르크, 세르비아, 노르웨이 간의 외교 관계를 축하하는 무대에 올랐다. 주한 노르웨이 대사관 초청으로 진행된 그녀의 그리그 피아노 협주곡 연주는 노르웨이 대사관 관계자들로부터 세계적으로 유명한 자국의 피아니스트 ‘레이프 오베 안드네스와 견줄 만하다’ 찬사를 받았습니다. 주 벨그라드 한국 대사관의 초청으로 이루어진 벨그라드 세르비아의 Great Kolarac 홀에서의 그녀의 독주회는 세르비아 라디오 텔레비전의 CD 제작 제안으로 이어졌고, 주한 룩셈부르크 대사관 초청으로 이루어진 최유진과 도이치그라모폰 소속 룩셈부르크 저명 피아니스트 프란체스코 트리스타노와의 조인트 리사이틀 역시 관계자들의 호평속에 마무리 되었다. 이후 소니 클래시컬은 2011년에 최유진을 전속 아티스트로 영입, 그녀의 데뷔 앨범인 "프란츠 리스트: 리플렉션"을 발매하였다.
최 씨는 예원학교를 최고 영예로 졸업했고, 미국 보스톤의 뉴잉글랜드 음악원예비 학교와 월넛힐 예술 고등학교도 최고 영예로 졸업했다(프란시스 C. 라니어 상). NEC에서 학업을 이어가며 음악원 주최 모든 콩쿠르를 석권하고 학사 및 석사 학위를 모두 최고 영예로 수상했습니다. 이후 보스턴에서 학업을 마친 후 그녀는 독일 프랑크푸르트 국립 음대의 레브 나토체니 교수를 사사하며 유럽 최고의 전문 연주자 과정인 ‘콘체르트엑자멘’을 최상위점으로 취득하며, 곧 바로 나토체니 교수의 조교로 임명되었다. 그녀는 전문 연주자로서의 바쁜 활동 중에도 나토체니 교수의 클래스의 모든 학생들을 10년 동안 가르치면서 지도자로서의 성장을 위한 필수 지식과 경험을 쌓으며 도움이 필요한 학생들을 지원하는 데 전념했다.
벨그라드 음악대학교, 현대 온드림 앙상블, 예원학교, 한국 오픈 피아노 포럼, 독일 헤센의 Schlossmusik Akademie, Talent Music Summer(이탈리아), Classical Hugs(미국) 등 다양한 마스터 클래스에 초청 교수로 재직하기도 하였다. 2016-2019 시즌 동안 그녀는 유럽의 여러 페스티벌에서 아카데미 디렉터/창립자 및 교수로 재직했다: 독일 Bad Ems에 위치한 페스티벌 게겐 덴 스트롬(독일)에서 피아노 아카데미의 예술 감독직을 위임받아 독일 최초의 엘리트 피아노 아카데미를 설립하여 첫 회부터도 드라마틱한 성공을 이끌어내었고, 크로아티아 스플리트에 위치한 피아노 루프 아카데미에서도 위임을 받아 아카데미의 레벨을 한결 높였으며, 그리고 ‘Prof. Dr. 레프 나토체니 국제 피아노 연구소’의 디렉터로 재직하며 실질적으로 연구소의 창립과 모든 커리큘럼등을 설립하였다.
이러한 그녀의 다채로운 경험과 노력들은 그녀 자신의 꿈을 펼치기 위한 후학 양성과 문화 예술 사업을 위한 주)유진온뮤직, 영문명 EON (EugeneONmusic, Excellent Online Network,) International Music Center 를 설립하는데 큰 보탬이 되어 주었다. 그녀의 열정과 공감 능력, 유연하고 배려심 깊은 성격과 항상 격려를 아끼지 않는 교육적 접근은 초심자부터 전문 연주자까지, 모든 수준의 수많은 학생들의 인생을 바꿔주고 있는 중이다.
Described as ‘magical and mesmerizing’, ’her Chopin touches people’s heart and soul’ (Frankfurt Allgemeiner Zeitung), and having a ‘charismatic stage presence multiplied by her personal charm’ (Frankfurter Neue Presse) with ‘formidable technique and exceptional sensitivity’ (The Piano), EUGENE CHOI is a pianist of iron will, utmost devotion, and romantic inspiration. Today, EUGENE CHOI, an exclusive artist of SONY Classical and a piano faculty at Kalaidos Musikhochschule in Zürich, Switzerland, is engaged in her new project – ‘International Online Music Academy EugeneONmusic’.
Ms. Choi commenced her performing career with her first solo recital at the age of 8 in Seoul, Korea, followed by her official debut as a soloist with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 11. At 16, Eugene made her USA debut as a soloist with the Boston Pops Orchestra at the Boston Symphony Hall under Maestro Keith Lockhart, as well as with Maestro Benjamin Zander at Jordan Hall, Boston. Again at age 20, she performed Chopin’s Piano Concerto in F Minor at Jordan Hall with Maestro Stanislaw Skrowaczewski.
She has collaborated with several orchestras including re-engagements with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra 20 years after her debut at Seoul Art Center, Süddeutsche Kammerorchester’ in Germany, and numerous national and state orchestras in Korea such as Busan, Inchon, Kyunggi, Gwangju, Daegu, and Eurasian Philharmonic Orchestras, among others.
Ms. Choi has presented numerous solo recitals at world-renowned festivals such as Rheingau, Weilburg, Varazdin, Opatia, Kotor, Montenegro, Lyubliana, Holzhausenschlöschen, Augusburger Mozartiade, Chopin Gesellschaft, Steinway series, Bechstein concert series, and seven consecutive appearances at Alte Oper Frankfurt, which led to her recognition as 'the 11th most important person in Frankfurt' within the article “50 most important people in Frankfurt” by ‘Journal of Frankfurt’. This list included prominent figures such as the CEO of Deutsche Bank and the president of Alte Oper.
Eugene’s refined performances have garnered attention from artistic consultants of the Korean government, bringing her to stages celebrating diplomatic ties between the Republic of Korea and Luxembourg, Serbia, and Norway. Her performance of Grieg’s Piano Concerto received praise comparable to the world-famous pianist Leif Ove Andnes. At Serbia’s Great Kolarac Hall, Belgrade, her engagement led to a CD production offer from Radio Television of Serbia, subsequently resulting in Sony Classical’s release of “Franz Liszt: Reflections” in 2011.
Ms. Choi graduated from Yewon School of Art (Seoul, Korea) with the highest honors, followed by New England Conservatory’s Preparatory School & Walnut Hill School of Arts, also graduating with the highest honors (Francis C. Lanier Award). She continued her studies at NEC, winning multiple competitions hosted by the conservatory and capturing both Bachelor’s & Master’s degrees with the highest honors.
Ms. Choi has also achieved significant success in musical academia. After completing her studies in Boston, she entered Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main in Germany under Prof. Dr. Lev Natochenny. Following her graduation with "Konzertexamen" “Par Excellence”, she was appointed by Prof. Dr. Natochenny as his teaching assistant.
During her tenure of 10 years teaching the class ‘Meisterklasse Lev Natochenny’, Ms. Choi gained essential knowledge and experience in pedagogy, dedicating herself to supporting students in need. She has been invited as a guest professor to various master classes, including Belgrade Music University, Hyundai Ondream Ensemble, Yewon Art School, Open Piano Forum in Korea, Schlossmusikakademie in Landes Hessen (Germany), Talent Music Summer (Italy), Classical Hugs (USA), among others.
In recent years, she has served as Director of Academy & Professor in residence at numerous festivals in Europe: Festival Gegen den Strom (Germany) and Piano Loop Academy in Split, Croatia, and Director of Lev Natochenny International Piano Institute, which solidified her foundation to create the “EON International Music Academy” (EugeneONmusic.LTD). Her enthusiastic, empathetic, passionate, flexible, and encouraging pedagogic approach and caring personality have profoundly benefitted many students at all levels.
