Since 2017, James Stewardson has been Assistant Jazz Department Chair and full time faculty instructor at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School (Prep) and School of Continuing Education (CE) and Jazz Lab, faculty.
He has taught at Berklee College of Music, Guitar week, as well as the Walnut Hill School where he directed jazz ensembles. He is an instructor of guitar, electric bass, and improvisation, as well as a classroom instructor in jazz theory and composition at New England Conservatory Prep and CE. Many of his students have moved on to attend prestigious schools including NEC, Berklee, University of Miami, NYU, MSM and many others.
His students have won awards from the Brubeck Competition as well as the Grammy Band.
Since 2017, Mr. Stewardson has performed and conducted master classes throughout China including Beijing, Shanghai, Xi’an, Chongqing, Tianjin, Zhengzhou, etc., and has worked with students and schools in China who want to know more about the pre-screen and audition process in the US for highly selective schools.
